I know… I am already posting another Coldplay song. I couldn’t help it… I was listening to this today and I adore it. It was written for the movie Unbroken (which I have never seen). But the thing is, the song is called Miracles… and I could really use one. Or twenty.
Plus it’s beautiful.
Sometimes the stars decide
To reflect in puddles in the dirt
When I look in your eyes
I forget all about what hurts
I wish I could talk to you Even if just a whisper
But when you’re around I’m shy and tongue-tied My insides melt
Around my pounding heart And my voice is paralyzed
But then I see your sweet smile
And I show you mine
Everything in me is stirred
And I know I never need To speak a single word
My favorite music lately tends to be on the mellow side… but not always. Today, I needed something else… and I kind of love the story behind this song…
White told UK newspaper The Sun that he played the song to his daughter the day after she’d asked her dad for ‘16 saltine crackers.’ “I said, ‘I wrote a song for you,’” he recalled, “and I played it back for her. She blushed and turned away. The next time I played the song for her, she said, ‘Yeah I never said that!’” [source: genius.com]
This is another song my kids used to sing… at least this part:
I’m hungry and the hunger will linger
I eat sixteen saltine crackers then I lick my fingers
This song should be an apology because I can’t believe I still haven’t finished my already-a-week-late secret admirer post…
I know you’re all amazing and don’t totally hate me for it. I know you understand. But I’m so frustrated! I was so happy with my writing earlier today… and then I picked up the kids from school… and my writing crashed. And then it was back… and then… ugh! It’s messed up… one minute I’m typing wildly and the next I’ve got nothing! It’s driving me mad.
And of course, it being Friday, I had to take a break for Hawaii Five-0. Maybe the extended viewing of my dreamguy (who spent lots of time wet in this episode – yum) will help.
the song…
This song is from 2009. My kids were still in preschool… and we’d already established their great taste in music. (Yes, this was an important part of their early childhood development.) My daughter, 2 years old at the time, used to sing part of this all the time — the part created from recordings of the band’s real fans. Genius. (You’ll know which part when you hear it.)
Oh — if you’re not familiar with the band – 30 Seconds to Mars – Yes, that is Jared Leto who you may know from… him being Jared Leto.
Into your eyes
Hopeless and taken
We stole our new lives
Through blood and name
In defense of our dreams…
We were the kings and queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves……
