This is the end… and starting next week… um… I’ll get back to you…

divider dots.

When Dani saw Finn turning toward Adam, she grabbed his arm. But Finn wasn’t letting her stop him this time. Despite what she told him about her doubts, he still blamed Adam for everything. Finn shook his arm free and went after Adam again.

Maybe Adam was right… he was going to get punched again. Or at least Finn was going to try. But Adam wasn’t taken by surprise the way he had been earlier. When Finn swung at him, he managed to duck away from Finn’s fist. But it didn’t matter. Finn’s other hand reached to Adam, too, touching his shoulder and shoving him backwards.

When Adam splashed into the water, Finn glared at him for a moment before turning and walking away. Dani took a deep breath and sighed. She felt angry and sad and guilty and relieved all at once. Tears fell from her eyes as she stepped closer to the edge of the dock near Adam.

“I’m sorry, Adam.”

“For what?”

“Adam… you’re in the lake.”

“Yes I am.” But he didn’t look angry or upset. He smiled.

“Why do you look happy?”

“Dani…”

“What?” She wiped her tears and found herself smiling, too.

“I get to have you. How could I not be happy?”

She didn’t speak. She stared at him, her smile growing. Her eyes barely left his as she reached for her shoes.

“Dani… don’t…” But he knew she was going to do it anyway. And the smile on his face wasn’t going anywhere.

When Dani jumped into the water, Adam caught her in his arms. And he kissed her.

As he held her, his fingers gently pushed the hair from her eyes. “You are crazy.”

“I am not crazy. I just want to be with you.”

“You could have waited for me to get out of the water.”

“No, I couldn’t.”

He adored her smile. And he kissed her again. “Dani?”

“Yes?”

“We’re soaking wet.”

“We are.”

“Is the key still hidden under the porch at your gram’s cabin?”

“It is.” She smiled, knowing he wanted to go there to get out of their wet clothes.

“I have another question.”

“Ask me.”

“He said I took you from him. Did I?”

“Adam… you had me the whole time.”

the end.

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

    • Thanks… you’re so sweet. ♥ I am really not prepared for next week. 😦 And then… I wonder if I should keep posting fiction or not… I doubt I’m ever going to publish but if I’ve already posted everything I have… what’s left? But I’m probably not going to publish anyway so it doesn’t matter. But… I don’t have anything else even close to ready right now…

Hmmm, you’ve got a point…if you’re going to publish something wait, don’t post it. If you’re not, go for it. Maybe try something outside of your comfort zone too…something suspenseful, dark, twisted, or spooky? The sky is the limit with you girl. 🙂

        • Well… dark isn’t really out of my comfort zone. For writing, I guess it is… but not for, you know, life. Ha! I’m not sure I can come up with twisted and spooky in fiction. Honestly, I’m not that inventive.

I’m doing okay. More tired lately with the days getting shorter. SAD always effects me more since I’ve had depression this last 10 yrs. But I get used to it. Excited for your next series whenever you have an idea. Have been reading your wonderful poetry as well 🙂

        • Thank you! Yeah, I don’t like when the days get shorter… it brings me down for sure.

Do the bright lights help you? I tried one that was supposed to emulate the light from the sky but it was useless. Then my one nurse noted that I should try one that’s more like the light from sunlight. Insurance paid for that one as it was quite big and huge and I tried it for a year and half, didn’t help a lot. My brother isn’t depressed but he swears Vitamin D tablets help although he takes 2-3 when the days get shorter not just one tablet.
