part 21.
When I stopped walking, Mom turned to me. “Amy, what’s wrong?”
I stared straight ahead and said nothing. Greg. He couldn’t come with me to the funeral. But he couldn’t stay away either. And he looked so dreamy… his jacket… his tie… his damn perfect hair… his aversion to shaving… and his beautiful smile. I wanted to rush right into his arms. But I couldn’t do that.
Greg took a step toward me. Mom leaned a little closer and spoke softly into my ear. “Oh… that’s Greg?! Oh my…” I still didn’t speak or turn to her. I just nodded. I couldn’t take my eyes off his.
Slowly, I walked to him. Don’t kiss him. Not here. My God, he is so sweet. And gorgeous. When I reached him, he lifted a hand and touched my shoulder. And he made me sigh when he slid his touch down and gently held my arm.
“Amy, are you okay?”
“Yes.” Maybe no one will see me kiss him. Damn. Of course someone will see. “You’re here. You’re not supposed to be here…” But I’m so happy you’re here.
“I know. I was worried about you. I just wanted to be close… in case you needed me.”
“Greg…” Oh, he is so sweet.
“Amy, I heard the whole thing. My God, I wanted to walk over there and shut her up.” He gave me a little smile. “But you didn’t need me at all. You were… amazing…” His words grew softer. “And incredibly sexy…” His smile was sweet and devilish at the same time. “I didn’t think I could want you more…”
My heart shivered at his words. And I had to whisper to him. “I am desperate to kiss you right now…”
“I am desperate to take you home with me right now…”
I am desperate to throw him down on the ground and have my way with him right here at this very moment… “And I want to go with you… but I can’t let anyone see me leave with you.”
“I know.” He dropped his hand from my arm. I hated to lose his touch but it was right. I was sure we were being watched. “Amy, I’m going home. I think you should meet me there.”
“I think I should, too.” I could see him trying to fight a smile and he was irresistible.
“I’ll be waiting…”
I parked outside Greg’s and tried to calm my breathing. The hand I rested over my heart did nothing to stop the pounding inside. Okay. Breathe. He’s inside. Waiting for me. Oh God.
I walked to his door, my hands shaking, my heart racing. I didn’t bother with the doorbell. He was expecting me. I only needed a little knock. And when I heard him turning the doorknob, a wave of tingling anticipation rushed through me.
Sigh.
Still sexy as hell, minus the jacket.
And in his hand, a colorful bunch of gorgeous daisies.
To be continued…
Glad to see you got your mojo. 😊

It was buried in the back of the bottom drawer. Or possibly at the bottom of the pint of gelato. 🙂

Mine usually at the bottom of a pint of Cherry Garcia….or vodka, whichever comes first.

It’s that damn Talenti gelato… the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie one. I can only buy it, like, once a month, tops, because I cannot keep from eating the whole thing…

I hear ya. It’s probably good they only sell it in pints, otherwise I’d eat a gallon in one sitting instead. 😃

I know it was kind of a throw-away part… but I needed a transition… Or I could have kept going but it seemed a good place to break… to torture everyone… though that wasn’t what I was thinking at the time…

This was the right call. Not every chapter can be all action. It’s preparing us for what’s going to happen next!
