This afternoon I took my son out for ice cream at Dairy Queen. One of the few ‘bonding‘ activities a fourteen year old boy wants to do with his mom.
He got chocolate. I got vanilla. It was delicious.

p.s.— Who decided that vanilla and chocolate were the quintessential soft serve flavors? Coffee would be far superior.

About what sandra thinks
Sandra is a writer, blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy, too. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.
Mmmm, there is an ice cream parlor close to my house that serves chocolate sorbet ice cream. So that’s chocolate ice cream with no cream in it. And it’s so incredibly intense that the only way to eat it is with another scoop of ice cream. My favorite flavor to combine the super-intense chocolate with is raspberry. Mmmmm

Ooh… that sounds delicious! What I really want is to go to Italy and get some real Italian gelato, but unfortunately, that’s a bit unrealistic… 🙂

Italy is awesome and they definitely have great food. I’m not sure if their ice cream is still the best though…
I mean, it obviously is, but I think enough people around the world know the recipes and techniques to be able to make the same ice cream eating experience possible elsewhere.
All you need to do is close your eyes while you’re eating your ice cream and voila (or should I say presto?) you’re in Italy eating gelato!

If I ever do make it to Italy for real again in my life, I don’t think I’m ever going to leave.

Ooh, coffee ice cream, yum. Even when I was young, my favorite flavor at BE was Jamocha Almond Fudge. And yet, I really don’t like sweetener in my coffee. Weird.

My favorite ice cream flavor has always been coffee… as far back as I can remember. Like, since birth. 😀

Every time you have ice cream you can have my portion too Sandra. Unfortunately my teeth are ultra sensitive to ice cream.

That’s sad. But I’ll be happy to help you out.

There’s a place right near campus that is a walk-up dairy bar. They have the usual soft serve stuff, but one of them is vanilla and orange swirl! It’s fantabulous!!! 😃🤙🏻

Vanilla gets a bad rap. I love vanilla and order it almost as often as chocolate. Especially milk shakes!

I love vanilla, too. It was my dad’s favorite. But coffee is my favorite flavor above all. I had some coffee frozen yogurt today. I really need to stop taking my kids out for ‘treats’…

I love coffee ice cream too but it has just enough caffeine to mess up my sleep! Ahhh!

Even regular coffee barely messes up my sleep. I wonder if I’ve developed an immunity. I used to have to stop with coffee by about 3 pm. Now I sometimes make some at, like, 10 pm!

One of the buffets around here has like 16 soft serve flavors. It’s glorious, but I find that vanilla is still my favorite. ❤
