or so I thought… #poetry

when the moon
didn’t glow
and the stars
didn’t shine
I looked for a light
and I found it
or so I thought

it was you
finally there
to brighten the night
and light up
the moon and the stars
and my world
or so I thought

I was blind
desperate for love
lonely and scared
and you arrived
at the right time
in the right place
or so I thought

the truth is
I was in love
with the idea of you
with something
I wanted you to be
I fooled myself
or so I thought…

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

  1. It’s sad when we are in love with an idea, a dream, or a longing that seems totally out of reach, and it’s amazing how often this occurs. Lovely poem.

Love this Sandra and so true. We are often in love with the idea of something or someone and the reality is far different. Sorry I’ve been MIA. Will be catching up soon!
