[Disclaimer: I don’t want anyone to be offended… Please know that. I am sure some of you actually enjoy this stuff. I mean, some of you must or it wouldn’t still be out there. I don’t understand it, but everyone is not me (we should all be thankful for that). My intention is not to attack anyone or anyone’s opinion. It’s just me with my extreme feelings on the subject.]

r | ‘reality’ television

Who the fuck watches this shit? [And when I ask that, I seriously do not know who watches it… or why… and to me, it’s shit. But again… if you love it, go nuts.]

I can’t talk about all of them because I’m going to hurt someone. Maybe myself. But I have to just… ugh… I don’t even know where to begin.

~

The Real World… which was never real. Was that the start of this reality nightmare? Do I have MTV to blame for everything? All I remember is the sound bite I heard again and again… ‘There is nothing real about The Real World.’ Shocking.

The ‘Survivors’ are going to survive no matter what. I don’t care who can do stupid things better. [Is that even what happens? I don’t know anyone who watches this anymore.]

I’m sort of okay with shows like Top Chef and The Amazing Race. They kind of have a brain… I’ve never watched either, but that’s the impression I get. And Mom watches The Amazing Race so that’s got to be okay.

That ‘The Voice’ exists isn’t so bad either. [And thank god we’re finally rid of American Idol. At least The Voice has cool chairs and hot Adam Levine.] BUT… what ever happened to real struggling musicians working their asses off playing dive bars and shit until they fucking earn it? And Gwen Stefani is annoying as fuck. [Who the hell gives up Gavin Rossdale for Blake ‘I’m a dick’ Shelton?] Speaking of… Blake Shelton is easily one of the most dick celebrities ever. I don’t watch The Voice, but on talk shows and even just promos… god damn… he is an ass. I cannot stand him. He’s earned a place on the PCF.

[The PCF or ‘plane crash flight’ is the flight which will crash and burn while loaded with passengers of my choosing. Like Taylor Swift and Cameron Diaz. Oh damn, I need to dedicate a post to the PCF!]

What is the point of Dancing With the [washed up] Stars? I don’t want to see these people, dancing or otherwise. In some cases, it totally creeps me out. Just… no. And come on… every season there is someone… or a couple of someones… who have a clear advantage because of their previous career/experience. Or maybe not. I don’t know. I don’t care.

Big Brother is watching but it has nothing to do with this stupid show. Voting and teaming up and keys and shit? I have no idea what the fuck is going on. I had a friend (who has since moved far away… boo…) who used to watch this show. If I was at her place, I had to sit through it. But really, I was usually in the kitchen making nachos or something.

I don’t even know what to say about The Kardashians. Why does this show exist? Because of Kim’s ass? I don’t understand. I’m going to pretend this doesn’t exist and move on.

Then there are shows like Teen Mom. Does no one see that this is basically an advertisement for teen pregnancy? Aww… look… a cute baby! I want one! UGH. How the fuck is this on television? How is this okay?

The Apprentice? Please. I CANNOT even go there. Fuck that show.

And finally… the worst of all…

No ‘Bachelor’ or ‘Bachelorette’ is ever going to truly fall in love through a fucking ‘reality’ show. It pains me to know people like the ones on these shows exist. I have never watched an episode of either of these but the clips show up… promos, late night shows… I cannot escape it. This is the worst of the worst. It makes me embarrassed to be an American. It makes a mockery of falling in love and if you know me, you know I am not okay with that. No. Wrong. Fail.

I don’t want to know any of this ‘reality’. I want to escape to some fictional place and laugh or cry or scream… I miss the days of actual fictional comedies and dramas that didn’t get cancelled after three episodes if everyone on earth didn’t watch. I miss when it felt like we were seeing what was good… not what was cheap to produce. That’s the reality I like.

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

Sandra!!!! I can’t believe you have a PFC! I called mine the ‘Airplane to nowhere’ because my husband thought I’d definitely jinx myself for hoping it would crash. Anyway, I put Kathy Lee Gifford, Phil Simms, Joe Buck, Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber on it, among others… I am laughing so hard right now! And I am completely with you on Reality TV!

I hate most reality tv. Everything except the ones with Gordon Ramsay but I may have a wee thing for him. 😉😁 Plus the kids like Masterchef Junior. But the rest make me sad for society in general.

  4. I used to be like this (hate reality TV) but then I started watching various shows. I don’t watch any of the ones that you mentioned, but I was a huge Real Housewives fan back in the day. Mostly for mocking purposes. It’s mindless entertainment really. There’s no complicated plot to sift through, no dramatic cliffhangers. Although, these shows are all contrived and have ‘writers’ anyway.

I agree that a lot of it is just trash but most of the fictional shows airing right now aren’t much better imo.

    • I have a lot of current regular scripted shows that I love to watch. Whether they’re critically good or not, I don’t know… don’t really care unless that gets them canceled…! I’ve never seen Real Housewives but I’m sure I would be disappointed in society if I did! 😃

      • I avoid critically good shows because they’re usually the worst (to me anyway, LOL). I just need a show to entertain me without depressing the hell out of me. Life is miserable enough. The original RH shows were so good, but yeah…They would make you very disappointed. I quit O.C. after a fake cancer storyline. They took it too far 😑. But when you have an hour to spare and don’t feel like thinking, the housewives always come through.

  5. Every Kardashian should be on that plane. Kim in the front row…though her ass could definitely be used as a flotation device. To become famous by making a home porno? And one that isn’t even good? As lame as it gets. I don’t know that there a more self-involved group of people on the planet. Meh.

Oh I hate almost all reality shows! I like chopped and things like cupcake wars (i can almost hear your disappointment) but the one reality show I can’t live without is America’s Next Top Model…. I don’t know why but I LOVE it! The drama, the crazy shoots, the end photographs…its amazing lol

  7. Yes, WTF is it with reality shows? Isn’t your own reality enough? I used to watch Survivor, and the first couple seasons were a lot more about actually ‘surviving’ than the rest. The only one I’ve seen that was quite interesting (but not quite reality) was Hunted, where the contestants played as fugitives from the law. If they could evade arrest for 28 days, they won $100,000. Real eye-opener to just how much information law enforcement has or can find about you. Scary.

    • Oh… I remember the promos for Hunted. I thought it would freak me out knowing how exposed I really am… or if it was the other way and law enforcement was crappy and we’re all doomed… 🙂 Wow, I am such a positive person… 😃

Yep, have to admit I miss the comedies too, even some of the corny ones like Get Smart. I have been sucked into watching The Voice and Masterchef but that’s about it for me.

Baaaaaaaaa Ha Ha Ha! Guilty as charged! I’m a reality TV junkie 😦 I know, I know, “Who watches this shit” Me! My current favorite is “First Dates” and in my defense, I had to watch it, it has Drew Barrymore narrating it and Ellen Degeneres produces it. Love this damn show! Even have the hubby watching it and normally he hates this shit but he’s addicted just like me. 🙂 Sorry girl, but I had to come clean with you LOL

    • Haha… I think I already knew this about you. 🙂 I worried about this post… just don’t want anyone getting offended… We all have our ‘things’… and they’re all different. I knew there’d be people who like this stuff. It’s kind of popular. Although for the most part, it makes me shudder. LOL

  12. I was never an American Idol/Dancing with the D-listers/Survivor Bachelor fan. But there ARE some shows I’ll watch all day. Catfished. Say Yes to the Dress. My 600-lb Life. And on and on….

I never claimed to be highbrow though 🙂
