the whole half.

the whole half.
Your smile that night
Melted the insides of
Every girl in the room
But you chose me
I remember your words
I remember every one
They replay in my head
Every day I’m without you

I was afraid to take
What you offered me
I wanted to be whole
You gave me completion
I wanted to want you and
I did but I needed you too
Need eclipsed want
And I knew it was wrong

I walked away but
It was a mistake to leave
The image of your tears
Is burned into my brain
Now after years alone
I think of nothing but you
Your sighs and your pleas
Your screams and your cries

Everything you told me
Was right and I was wrong
I am consumed by regret
and
I hope you still want me
Because I want you

swish.

This poem was inspired by The Airborne Toxic Event… and their song Half of Something Else, one of my favorite songs ever written.

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Hawaii where she could learn to surf. She loves music, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

Sandra, i have written so much poetry (3 poems, I think) in the last two weeks, i am probably now qualified to say that you have demonstrated a very special use of words – touching!
Actually, all the recent poetry I’ve been reading has drilled open a reservoir of hidden poetry in me AND my wife. Let us know what you think.

  5. I am helpless to write poetry that doesn’t rhyme! This is beautiful, you really have a way with words!
