dream.

dream. a poem by sandra.

You are perfect
But only for me
I know this because
You are all things
Born inside my dreams

Eyes dark as chocolate
Smile that melts icebergs
Hair to run my fingers through
Mind unafraid to challenge mine
Love to fill my empty heart
Spirit both playful and calm
Desire strong and limitless
Humor that matches my own
Soul a perfect fit with mine
The missing piece of my puzzle
A connection like no other

You are perfect
The very definition
Of a dream
Especially because
You are not real

swish.

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy, too. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

  2. There is nothing as powerful or delicious as the person of our dreams. This was so well written Sandra. I keep telling you your writing has risen to another level. Bravo.

    • Thank you Andrew…. I was completely frustrated… every word I wrote looked back at me and screamed to be deleted! I had to hide in my bedroom and lie in the dark for a few minutes… then I tried again… And this appeared.

And yes, the last 5 lines were the first written…

      • Okay, that trick worked again. Sandra there are days were we struggle with every word. I go through that as well. Sometimes with our writing we have to jot everything down and start chipping away at our thoughts and feelings as if we were sculptors. This was well. done. And as always, I love discussing writing with you.

        • Thank you… it’s weird that you (you and the collective you) think this is good… because after the wordlessness… I wrote it in about 20 minutes… I guess sometimes it just goes very quickly. Other times it takes longer… And I am not sure I’m still talking about writing.

Your poem and words are perfect Sandra, unlike real life. But that’s the beauty of writing.

  4. Perfection only exists in our imaginations. Real life is ugly, messy, complicated and imperfect. But sometimes it can also be beautiful, fulfilling, breathtaking and pure magic. But, perfection only exists in our imaginations. 😊

    • Unfortunately, my life is not even close to 50/50. I have way more of that first set of adjectives than I do the second. Many days, I don’t have the second at all. And so I write… sometimes unrealistically perfect characters…

  5. Oh, the hopeless romantic in me wants the dream to be real… But the practical girl knows that’s not realistic. Nevertheless, like Amelia said, reality can still be beautiful! You sometimes have to look a little harder, that’s all! You really are expressing yourself beautifully here. I agree with Andrew!
