always in the dark
my dreams are brightest
but in the light of day
the very same dreams
fade into dust
and into darkness
irony, really
a paradox…
and not the only one
you are the other…
a contradiction
bringer of happiness
but with the power
to drown me in pain
and break my heart

About what sandra thinks
Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.
I read this as the expectations from life we have, lettings us down in painful agony.

I guess a lot of night time writing is required!

Hmm… Sometimes I think my writing is better when I’m miserable! Not lately, though.

That is quite the irony. Love that initial stanza. 😊

I almost left it at that first stanza…

It’s really good. Glad to see you write today. That’s a good thing, no? 😊

I wrote it last night… but yes… I was amazed I was able to write something. Feels like it’s been forever…

I’ll bet it was after midnight though. Either way, I’m glad to see it. Now run with it. Just keep writing. Just an observation, but you seem to feel better when you do. 😊

God knows I’m miserable when I can’t… And yes, it was after midnight…

Love this, Sandra. Contradictions are fascinating; bittersweetness is one of the biggest ones.

Thank you so much. I find that what gives the most happiness also gives the most pain… usually, anyway…

Thank you for sharing this. I read it in a very literal way. The days have been dark and gloomy lately, but out of those dark depths, I’ve come to life. Today it was sunny, and I lost my way even though I thought I was craving sun all along.

I think it can be accurate in a literal way, too. I always think the dark gloomy days need to give way to sun but sometimes that seems to make it worse…
