You told me I was perfect
I adored those words
Because to me they meant
Perfect for you
But I was wrong
It was the beginning of our end
The pedestal you built for me
Was too high off the ground
I could not live up to perfect
Could you? Could anyone?
You say you never expected that
But clearly you did –
Because when a single brick
Crumbled to the ground
You pushed me off
Tossed me aside
And ran in the other direction
Maybe we were on the wrong road
And we needed course correction
Every path cannot lead to our destiny
So my journey continues
And I am content with imperfection
But I confess I do wonder
If you found a new statue to worship
Maybe she is your perfect
Until she too crumbles
can I help you find something?

Well written Sandra. Perfection is an illusion, it can only lead to crumbled walls.

How true, when we show that we’re just human, perfect is such a dangerous word… poignant

I like “perfect” in my fiction sometimes…. but I’m a crazy romantic… that’s not real! But in reality, who can live up to that? Plus perfect is subjective anyway.

I think like that, too, and was always shocked when a seemingly perfect guy showed chunks in his armor. I’m better accepting reality now, lol, but part of me still longs for perfect…

Perfection does not exist. A poignant write. The illusion or expectations of perfection, will only destroy relationships. Good one.

I think we find “perfection” in imperfection… My perfect cup of coffee is way too bitter for someone else. Even here, I use perfect is sort of a metaphor for someone wanting you to be what they want instead of being yourself. And thanks! 🙂

And now you’re going back to my “Misfit Rendevouz.” Understood. People have to accept people as they are and not try to change them. Or realize they are not a good fit and move on. This was a good write. Love the way you ended it too.

Thank you. I think imperfections are what we love in others… Perfect would be boring if it existed. I think we connect with someone when we “get” their flaws… identify with them or just love them for being who they are. Okay, philosophical rambling over.

LOL Agreed. I don’t like when people try to change others. Everyone needs to love and accept the imperfections of others.

My imperfections are irresistible so people love me. It’s my cross to bear… my curse…

This was beautifully written, but ultiimately a very sad post! The pursuit of perfection is a fool’s errand, with each quest ending in disaster.
