caged.

heart in a cage.caged.

She holds her secrets
Tries to hide her weakness
She may want to let you in
Yet stops before she begins

She knows how to lie
Secrets behind her eyes
Afraid you will deceive her
Though she was once a dreamer

She protects her heart
You can’t rip it apart
Inside her locked in a cage
Will never become love’s slave

She cries every night
Desperate to stop the fight
Dying to open her soul
Tired of being alone

She dreams of falling
Unlocked without warning
By the man who holds the key
Cage open and love set free
heart.

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

  1. Another beauty, Sandra. I’m feeling this one today, not sure why.

  2. This was beautiful. You know I like these kind of poems. And it went so perfectly with the image. Was this inspired by the image??

    • It was not. I found the perfect picture after I wrote it. I died when I saw it (not literally, obviously) because it was perfect…the image, the style. It was… “me”. I’m not entirely sure of the specific inspiration fit this… some dark corner of my head? Heart? One of those, I suppose, or more likely, both.

      And also… Thank you.
