blogging quirks.

I have a few blogging quirks. I don’t know if they’re weird… some probably are. But I never claimed to be normal. In fact, I claim the opposite.

My post titles are all lowercase.
Maybe I have an inferiority complex. Okay, yes, I do. But I wasn’t thinking about that when I started this blog. It was a stylistic decision. But I can’t help wondering if it subconsciously means something more. Or maybe I’m just weird.

Many posts a day.
I don’t usually post multiple times a day. Most of the time, I don’t have it in me to do that. But when I do have more to post, I’m hesitant to do multiple posts in the same day anyway. My thinking (which is probably messed up…) is that if I post something new, no one who hasn’t read the previous post will go back and read it. They’ll just skip to the newest one. Is that ridiculous? Maybe it is… because I read all the posts from people I follow who post multiple times a day. It can get overwhelming, but I do my best. Why do I assume my readers won’t do the same? Must be my extreme lack of confidence.

Save it.
I have saved (and still save) a copy of every post I’ve ever published… from the beginning. They are in Word documents. One for poetry, one for each fiction series, one for weekly perks (remember those?), one for song of the day, etc. I think it’s a side effect of me being a packrat. I can’t bear to throw certain things away. I also download the backup/transfer data file directly from WP every now and then, too. Like, at least once a month. Just in case something goes horribly wrong. I think I might be insanely paranoid.

This one is more of a question…

What do the x’s mean?
To me, and I imagine most others, x’s and o’s are kisses and hugs, respectively. I have been curious, though, for some time, if that is the intended meaning when bloggers end comments with x or xx. Are they kisses? I want to know. And for the record, I’ll take all the kisses I can get. Keep ’em coming. I’ll take the hugs, too, but people tend to write that word out. I guess o or oo at the end of a comment just looks weird. oo

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

What kind of kisses? Slurpy ones or the quick, dry peck on the cheek kinda kiss?

  2. OO at the end would make me think of something besides hugs. Or kisses. And I miss the perks. Those should return. 😃

I have the multiple blogging too except it’s worse because I then only post like once a month now

  4. I am pretty sure xo means kisses and hugs. If I find. To many posts in one day at the same blog I must unfollow because I don’t have time to read all that! 😊

I’m slightly paranoid about multiple posts per day and for the same reasons as you, so if I ever do one I usually keep them spaced by a couple of hours. I’ve always thought that x and o were kiss and hug respectively but I usually go with the emoji to avoid confusion. I never noticed the lower case titles!

    • Really? You never noticed the lower case? That fascinates me. I have no idea why it fascinates me… It just does… 😃 I don’t even tend to sign my name with a capital letter… There has to be some deeper meaning for me liking it that way…?

And yes, definitely on spreading out the posts!

If it registered at all, I think I must have viewed as an aesthetic choice! I’m not sure what sort of psychological significance it might have. It really could be just that you like the look of the lowercase better. I write some of my ‘capital’ letters exactly like the lowercase version only larger, because I don’t like the official cursive way to write them so….

I have not used x’s and o’s since I had hair. But sending hugs. I may have to get in line for kissy stuff. I like your posts, but you knew that.

I love that all your posts have lower case letters for their titles. I noticed this a while ago and think it’s fantastic!

I’ve never considered saving my posts though – mine aren’t really worth saving. You have stories and poetry and actual writings haha I just have musings. No one needs to read my musings down the road. But I do feel the same about posting too many times a day. I feel weird about it. I’ve actually unfollowed people who consistently post a lot. I want to follow people and read all their stuff and comment on most of it and contribute to their blogging community. Not people who I see posting 7 times in one day and I just click delete on all of them because it’s after work and I had a rough day and I really don’t feel like reading 7 new posts all from one person….or ya know something like that which totally didn’t just happen 5 minutes ago….

    • What I really hate is when my phone or laptop autocorrects to caps when I don’t want caps. Even with my name. I have to correct ‘what sandra thinks’ all the time. How silly would that look with a capital S?? lol

I think I’m just a little crazy with saving the posts. It’s a little obsessive…

I understand about the many-times-a-day posts. I want to be able to read so many blogs that I can’t give THAT much time to just one…

For me its a struggle with titles: if its multiple words long does each get a capital? Or if its the word a or the, they don’t need one but then its weird to have just one word without a capital ya know? Same with yours – what Sandra thinks would look weird haha.

And I totally feel you. I only have so much time in a day and don’t want to feel so overwhelmed by just one blogger

You’re kind of like e.e. cummings with the lowercase letters thing! Also, it is a good chance that you are both weird and paranoid because I also save all my posts on word files and ditto what you said about posting too much — and I know I’m both of those things — not saved and overly posted — just weird and paranoid. I’ve got a thing for using too many dashes as well. I wonder what that says about me?

    • I’m not sure what the dashes mean… but I constantly use ellipses… I have dots everywhere. I can’t help myself! I’m glad someone understands my paranoia. 🙂 I wrote a term paper in high school on e.e. cummings… hmm… that’s interesting. I haven’t thought about that for years… 🙂

I feel the same way about posting several times a day, even though I often do haha. I’m paranoid about losing all of my content too but I’ve never even thought to back it up– oh gosh. I think you might have taught me something that I’ll need to do often too now. 😛

Yes the x’s and o’s are hugs & kisses lol & I do think hugs are usually spelled out because “oo” looks so silly! 😂

Fun to hear about your blogging quirks, and also the comments of others. I never noticed your titles being lowercase, as sometimes I don’t even look at the titles of blogs. I get notices by email, so I see a blog name or name of the person, then click to start reading. I’ve worried about posting too many times in a day, but I don’t have anything else to do, so I just keep going sometimes. Most of mine are the quick to look at challenges anyway, so they don’t take up too much time for anyone to see. I’m with you on the dot dot dot elipses… I love them! We used to have the Word thing, but it went away, so I don’t know how to do that, but I do a back up on the blog every once in awhile, just in case. I like the xx or xo and ❤ and if I write hugs (((hugs))) that's how I do that. Now, look what I've done, gone and wrote a long comment. Hope you don't mind! 🙂

    • I have no problem with long comments! 🙂 It’s much easier to keep up with a blog that has many posts if they’re not all super long. Short ones are good sometimes. Sorry my comment is short…! lol 🙂

I’m considering picking up your backup quirk. Doesn’t sound bad at all. I can’t do the lowercase thing. I’m far too grammatically anal.

  14. I’ve often wondered about the x’s also! I too thought it was just kisses from xoxo’s.
