This is going to sound like a really weird question… but I seriously need to know. It’s research… for something I’m writing.

Do people still use the word slut? whore? ho? What’s the current way to refer to a woman (a friend, even) of extremely loose morals? I don’t want to sound… uh… outdated.

    I wish I could help you, Sandra… But 99% of my conversations in English are work conversations with clients, and conversations with people here on WordPress… Call me lucky, but I didn’t get called any of those lately, and I didn’t need to call anybody else that way either… But I am sure some charitable soul will give you a helping hand.

    If not, send a note to Biff Sock Pow! First it will be fun to imagine his face opening a message asking if you should use slut, whore and/or ho… And he is a living dictionary, so, if anyone can help you, it will be this delicious gentleman 🙂

    I am from Australia and I work with young people (under 21) and most of them come from troubled backgrounds, so they do not tend to hang labels on others. Sorry I could not help.

    In America these days we call that person president but that is for discussion in another post. We could say that loose morals are relative. I don’t wanna put labels on women or men like that. I hope you get where I am coming from.

    where i am in oz, slut and tart go either way, female or male. if you search on youtube for ‘tiddas can’t even dance’ abc oz television show, but language/content fair warning 😉

    Yeah, we still use slut. I’d probably go with that one.

    And I think it was clear that you’re not going to be using the word personally, lol.

    Yep, slut and/or whore is what I’ve read in current fiction. Probably only girls calling each other that tho. Man whore is used too.

    We don’t use whore or ho in the UK, thankfully! Not being posh, but we aren’t obsessed with whores or whoredom over here! I do hear people say “Skank” or Skanky, or she’s minging, or “a minger” LOL which would mean smelly! But since not many women actually smell bad, its more likely to be applied to males! Slag and Slut are good ones, not really very current tho, cos people are nicer these days, honestly, the younger generation are much nicer than back in my day. Nasty horrible little teenagers might say “she’s a cum slut, or a fuck bucket” or something ridiculous, but I don’t actually know any teens, so if I said that to them they’d probably think I was off my proverbial tits! Anyhow, obviously I’m clueless, but fun topic! 😀 Good luck with the project 😀

      This is a ridiculous post, I know. My concern was using a word that was used when I was 20… and having it sound dated. I could just go with “bitch”, but that really doesn’t have the same implications as “slut”. The character I’m writing is a college girl who sleeps around… a lot. Are people really nicer these days? I don’t know… my kids are younger but they already have some really mean kids to deal with…

        Yeah, I bet they’re still horrible, they just act nice when they see an old man coming – same as I used to do!! Haha, I duno, I got mixed feelings about it, some of them seem really nice, theres a big movement against being sexist these days, a lot of the kids seem aware of it, some people call them snowflakes, but I support that kind of caring type if I can, I think its nice. What do I know tho, I love in a dream – lot of kids are hardened, take too many drugs and think they got to be aggressive al the time, they wear me out, luckily they don’t care about what guys like me think.

        I’m sure theres still a lot of disrespectful kids out there, me and my mates all acted that way half the time, it was bravado tho, deep down we were all cuddly and lovely! LOL Chance would be a fine thing! Gotta go to bed, catch u later! 🙂 ❤

    Although, I do not use labels I hear others reference loose women as a “slut or whore” most. I’ve even heard the “man-whore” used for guys sleeping around with anything wearing a skirt (okay, that sounds sexists but that pretty much sums it up their intent). I reckon a newer take on this label might be “f-buddy” which is the same thing in my opinion. I can’t even bring myself to spell it out but you get it. I think adding buddy sorta justifies ones’ loose behavior in his/her mind. Poor foolish people, don’t they want anything special to look forward to someday? No wonder men and women today find it difficult to truly commit to another with all this casual, callous living.

    I’m 22 and I use the word “hoe” or “slut” Maybe someone younger than me would say “thot” nowadays.

    Kids these days I think say hoe. Between friends to tease each other, we used to say biatch. 🙄
