Over the last few weeks, I’ve been spending a lot of time with my daughter. I’m with both of my kids a lot, but with her, it’s more than just being in the same place.
I think she’s my best friend. Of course, she’s 10 so it’s not your typical best-friend relationship. And of course, since I’m her mom, she acts like I’m not there when her friends are around or she’s on her phone with them. You know, like I’m embarrassing or something. Typical kid stuff.
But when we hang out, and we do, it’s the best. She’s silly and funny. She loves to do stuff with Mom. And she is a genuinely nice kid. She would do anything for anyone. Makes me want to do anything for her. I mean, she’s my kid. I’d do anything for either of my kids. But it’s the little things she asks for… things we can do together… just us girls. “Can you take me out to buy new headphones?” “Want to watch YouTube with me?” “Can we go get coffee?” [Hold on… I’m not a horrible mom. She’s 10… I get the coffee… she gets chocolate milk… or strawberry milk… or coffee milk (yum).]
So we do those things. Go shopping… get coffee… watch ridiculous things on YouTube… watch Spider-Man: Homecoming twenty times because she thinks the boy is cute. (Maybe when she grows up, she’ll realize it’s really all about Thor.) We even clean together… she loves to organize things.
She’s even going through a phase where she likes to have Mom-time every night before she goes to bed. I think it’s a phase, anyway. I should enjoy it while it lasts because I’m guessing that when she hits her teenage years, she probably won’t want anything to do with me.
Tonight, she’s sleeping over at a friend’s house. Of course I said yes when she asked… but I’m going to miss Mom-time tonight.

There are very few things more adorable than a parent that so loves their child. Good on you. Be best pals!

🙂 I’m so glad I have this relationship with her. I really hope it doesn’t totally fall apart during her teenage years!

I have a good feeling you two will stay close even when the teen years come thumbling 🙂 xx But enjoy your Mom time, she’ll have to move out of the house someday 😉

I know… 😦 I think about that sometimes and I hate it! Maybe she will stay with me forever. Haha! My son, too… he’s older than her (13) but I can’t imagine him not here either! My babies!

So good! There will be conflict times, how can there not be, especially through the teens, but I hope the relationship continues to be a great one.

I hope so, too. I hate thinking about the kids getting older and moving out!

I’m just like that with my boys too. I love hanging out with them. They’re more fun than adults. At any function, you’ll find me with the kids. 😃

I often wish I still was one of them… a kid… 🙂

Wouldn’t that be great? Although, my childhood wasn’t…ideal. In fact, it was kinda weird. Now that I think about it, I’ll stay here, but just act like kid at every opportunity. 😃

My childhood was awesome. Wish I realized just how much at the time…

That’s what I hope my boys say someday. 😊

I’d love my kids to say that someday, too, but the way things are going for us in certain aspects of our life… well, let’s just say I feel bad about it already…

Don’t project. They may have completely different memories than you think they do. 😊

I seriously doubt that. I just haven’t been able to provide for them the life they deserve. Can’t go back and fix it now… already too late…

Do they know they’re loved? If yes, you’ve done your job.

Yes, they definitely do. Sometimes, they might think too much… lol

Then they’ll have great memories of childhood. It’s not about stuff. It’s about love.

Oh, I miss those days when my kids were younger. You are an awesome mom and she sounds like a wonderful daughter. That won’t change in the end!

Aww this is really sweet! I hope to have that one day! 🙂 Even though I kind of have a little bit of it already. I asked 2nd if she was ok taking a trip with me on Friday for some special one on one time for her birthday, and she could bring 1st with her. She said it depends on the day trip for their March Break Camp but then she said “ya know what, I don’t care what the trip is. I’d rather spend the day with you” and I almost got a little misty-eyed. It was so sweet.

I’ve imagined being close to her like this since the day she was born… all tiny and perfect… and then she started to look just like me… and I love that she likes to spend time with me. My son is amazing, too, but there’s something about girl time with my little clone.
