My cousin. 45 years old.

I’ve mentioned Joey before. See Thanksgiving 2015… and Thanksgiving 2016.

He had cancer… a brain tumor that spread. After multiple surgeries, there was, eventually, nothing more that could be done. Yet when you’d see him, he’d smile and laugh and seem alright. Maybe he broke down alone or with his dad or his girlfriend. But I never saw him do it. Despite knowing he didn’t have long, I never saw him cry.

Mom called a few hours ago. Joey died this morning.

I thought I might not be around here for a while but I’m betting I’ll be all over this place for distraction purposes, if nothing else. I certainly don’t want to sit around and think about him constantly… I’ll be a mess. (Well, messier than usual.) And I don’t want that because, you know, Joey wouldn’t have wanted it. That sweet, cute, upbeat, strong, positive guy would want everyone to remember happy times and smile. ‘Life’s too short,’ he would say. Yes, Joey… it really is.

    I’m so sorry for your loss, Sandra. Hubby lost another family member early this morning, so we are a little depressed and may have houseguests in a few days. And I agreed to go to a 31 party tonight – shoot me now…

    Joey sounds like one awesome 👏 guy…

    It must have have been a joy having him apart of your lives…
    they say … ” the good ones always died young..”

    he would want us to be so happy 😁 for the times he had with us here..

    You are so fortunate to have the opportunity to be given the chance of knowing and loving such a beautiful and happy 😊 man..

    Oh man, I’m so, so sorry. There’s never a good way to lose someone. I hate that he, his family, you, any of y’all, had to go through this. Thoughts and prayers sent all yall’s way, my dear. And, as always, use us for that distraction. We’re around. 😔😔

    I’m so sorry for your loss Sandra and for your families loss. At least you know he went out as positive as he could be. I hate c#%^*r, my one BFF who has it always writes it like this, she says it takes the power away from the disease. Gives the inflicted more hope that maybe sometime we can prevent and cure this awful disease 🙏🏻💕

    Condolences for your loss, Sandra. Cancer is insidious, and cruel, and unfair, and a poopy-head. Joey’s positive attitude goes to show the rest of us how we should approach our challenges. At least I try to remind myself of that (not always successfully, but still). May this week be better than last (and sending a hug ❤ )
