song of the day | what sandra thinks

I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay away from music for long… even after April

When I wrote my ‘guilty pleasures’ post for a-to-z music, I skipped a few songs I thought might qualify. This song is one of them.

Should I be embarrassed that I like this song?

That’s what I asked myself… and everyone else. Maybe it’s because I know who she has written songs for in the past. [I will refrain from listing them here… *that* would be embarrassing.]

My husband said I shouldn’t be embarrassed, but his opinion is irrelevant… (for a number of reasons… ha!) My daughter thought any embarrassment over this song was crazy. She loves the song. But, as a 9 year-old girl, she has questionable taste… ha! The boy said yes, liking this song is totally embarrassing… probably because he doesn’t like it… which really has nothing to do with whether or not I should be embarrassed for liking it.

All that… just to say… I’m a little addicted (no such thing as ‘a little’ addicted) to this song. I love the lyrics, the music… I can’t really explain… it just works and I love it… even though it may be totally out of character for me.

And it’s a girl singer!
[Is this a disclaimer? Maybe: 95% of all poppy girl singers sound the same to me (crappy)… but not this one… not this song, anyway. It remains to be seen if I’ll ever like anything else she does…]

swirly
I’m jealous, I’m overzealous

When I’m down, I get real down
When I’m high, I don’t come down
I get angry, baby, believe me
I could love you just like that
And I could leave you just as fast

But you don’t judge me
‘Cause if you did, baby, I would judge you too
No, you don’t judge me
‘Cause if you did, baby, I would judge you too

‘Cause I got issues
But you got ’em too
So give ’em all to me
And I’ll give mine to you
Bask in the glory
Of all our problems
‘Cause we got the kind of love
It takes to solve ’em

Yeah, I got issues
And one of them is how bad I need you

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

A female singer that you like? 😀

  2. I should maybe be embarrassed that I have no idea who she is? I’ve never heard of her, and this is likely the last of her songs I’ll listen to. I take it she’s a pop radio-ite?

    • I guess she is but it’s hard to define anything these days because I love Coldplay and they’re all over pop radio yet I usually see them still categorized as “alternative”. I hear, like, Nirvana and stuff like that, too. So really, who knows. In any case I’ve never heard anything else by her… I’m guessing this will be a one-hit-wonder… for me, anyway. I’m surprised I like it…

      • I hear ya’. Those lines have been a bit blurred. I hate to tell you this, but Nirvana is more in the Classic Rock realm now. Sad, but we’re getting old, man. 😃😃

        • I know… I should have used a more current example… lol Like, where all the band members are still alive and making music… haha 😃

          • Hahaha! Ya’ know, Coldplay will be in the category soon, if not already. They’ve been around a while now too. 😃

            • I don’t know how to categorize anything anymore… ahh… the world has gone mad!

              • That’s true. Even country is pop, hip-hop is pop. I just know what I like and go with it, regardless of “genre”. That said, I can’t handle the obvious and constantly repeated 8-10 songs that pop radio runs into the ground. Even if it’s a good song. As always, I despise pop radio STATIONS. Public Radio is the way to go, man. I would think that you’d have a great one with all the colleges and universities in your area.

                • There are a few… Emerson is usually good… but they’re not consistent. The best one was bought out by Clear Channel *shudder* and is now a country station. Horrific. The one I listen to most calls itself an alternative station… and it is, kind of… but I don’t listen to the radio anywhere near as often as I did before my station died. And I hear too much pop-crap because my daughter is 9 and while influenced by me, she is also greatly influenced by her friends…

                  • Hahaha! Yeah, the influence of their friends is going to be more and more prevalent, much to my dismay. I continue to do my part to insure they don’t have shitty musical taste. That pop crap still infiltrates like some sorta insidious insect, but I counter that with good music. 90% of the time my rule is my car, my music. Though I relent occasionally. And not all of what their friends listen to is crap….but most sure is. 😃

I never heard of her either. I don’t listen to radio either, just streaming music. It is hard to categorize music anymore … says the grumpy old lady! Lol!
