I am kind of anti-social. Offline, I mean. [Unless you think I am online, too… which is a valid belief.] I don’t especially like to be around other people unless I know them well. I just want to be in my little sandra-pod. I know… get out of your ‘comfort zone’… but I like it here in my zone. Or that’s what my brain tells me…
Because I am this way, I have little interaction with my neighbors… as little as possible. I guess it would be nice if I had cool neighbors with whom I thought could potentially be friends (even though I suck at making friends)… but I really don’t have cool neighbors. Hell, on one side lives an older couple with two adult sons… one of whom was my husband’s bully when he was a kid. I’m guessing the parents don’t know.
And they’re too preoccupied to care…
I know some people are really into their lawn being perfect, but I cannot take the guy seriously when he’s out there inspecting it with fucking tweezers. I’m didn’t inherit my mom’s green thumb. Our lawn is not manicured like this guy’s. It’s not awful or anything… but it’s not like his… which looks like astroturf. And I see the way he glares at us… looks down on us. Yes… because of our lawn.
I am desperate to tell him that if he can’t bear our grass being less green than his, he’s welcome to come on over and ‘fix’ it. But I’m sure he’s way too busy with his hedge trimmers and that level he uses to make sure they’re perfect.
I don’t interact with my neighbors much either. They own the land adjacent to ours and are really nice, and I’d even say they’re pretty cool. Older couple, ex-hippies, no kids. We rarely even bump into each other, even though we share the last 1/4 of our driveway with them. We each know we are around if need be, but having a large separation between us is ideal. I grew up in a city, so I was always used to dense old neighborhoods with a narrow walkway between each house. After living out here for nearly 20 years, not sure I could live that close to anybody anymore.

We are pretty close… like, literally. Not psychologically. LOL

I do not miss that. Although, looking back on all the places I’ve ever lived, and I can only recall one really bad neighbor. My friends and I were likely the ones considered the bad neighbors, now that I think about it.

I hate one set of neighbors. They are huge huge assholes. The other side I don’t know. So yeah…no interactions here either.
Tweezers?!? That’s completely insane.

To be fair… I don’t know that he literally has tweezers… but it kinda looks like he does… lol

I’ve always had nice neighbors. Not necessarily hang out in the yard with a drink friends, but I could go to any of them if I needed help. We have a guy in our neighborhood with the perfect lawn. Sometimes he picks up leaves by hand if just a few fall! He has way too much time on his hands…

I don’t really understand some people’s obsession with their lawn. I mean, I don’t want my yard to look like total crap, but I’m not going to freak out if it’s not green enough either…! 🙂
On the other side of us… we had this sweet old couple. We weren’t close but they were friendly… He once gave us the plate number from some idiot who backed into our fence and took off. Both he and his wife have now passed away (her first, him 3 years later). I honestly don’t know who lives in that house now. I think it may be their daughter…

It’s funny when one of us miss, the others do cause it makes the other lawns look worse! I do some gardening, but not a ton. Ours is just an ordinary yard…

My mother is amazing with all of that. Her yard is gorgeous… and she’s never paid anyone a penny… she does it all herself. It looks beautiful… I really should find some pictures and post them!

My parents’ house and yard were always beautiful and they did it all, too. My sister, too. I must not have gotten that gene!

My neighbors from my previous home were awesome. On one side, a childless couple our age who we’d always chat with on the border between our yards. Friendly but not so close to that they were always in our business either. And we never saw the folks on the other side. My current neighbors on one side is obsessed with yard work and power equipment. Leaf blower, garden tractor, trimmers, power washer! She’s so NOISY!!!!

Haha… I had one apartment where I became friends with my downstairs neighbors, but I think that’s the only time I’ve really become friends with a neighbor…!

It’s funny … even though I was in closer proximity to my apartment neighbors, I never became friends with any of them. Only after putting a little distance between people did some friendships form.

I’m friends with a ton of my neighbours. I think it’s partly a personality thing, a Canadian thing, and a small town thing. That being said, your neighbour sounds like a dick.
At least you know where to hit him if things go south between you two… in his perfectly manicured lawn. With bleach. ;-P

Haha… I’d fear retaliation, though. 😀 And yes, I’m SURE it’s a personality thing… I have a LOT of trouble making friends.

Oh no – in order to preserve your karma this move could only be used IN retaliation.

My interaction with the neighbors is waving when they’re outside at the same time we are.
And my lawn goals are to keep it under 6″. Anything else is bonus. And dandelions are pretty!

I usually try to avoid eye contact. I don’t really know why… I’m just a bitch like that, I guess. 🙂
I can totally understand your lawn goals. As long as it’s dealt with before the neighbors complain… I’m good. Dandelions give my yard some much needed color!

I’m with you. Yellow and green, I have no prob with them in the lawn! They cover the brown. 🙂
