fiction friday 53: wake up.

fiction friday.

A scene adapted from yet another of my much longer pieces… one that has no end. It may never end… I don’t think I want it to. It’s my escape…

come to me

wake up.

Maddie reached to her alarm clock and silenced it. She smiled and ran her fingers over Dean’s arm surrounding her.

He pulled her closer to him and kissed her shoulder. He let out a long, sweet sigh and mumbled softly. “What time is it, honey?”

She pulled his hand to her lips and kissed it. “Too early,” she whispered. “I have to open the shop. Go back to sleep, sweetheart.” She started to crawl out of his arms and out of bed.

“Wait…” he begged, pulling her back to him. She turned to face him.

“Yes?” She adored the look in his sleepy eyes.

He kissed her mouth and refused to let her go. “Pretend you’re sick…” His spoke softly, almost in whispers. “Let’s pretend we’re sick today…”

She smiled and touched his face. “My God, you are adorable.” She kissed him. “I would love to stay right here in your arms all day. But you know my boss. She’s my best friend. She’ll never believe I’m sick. Especially when you don’t show up for coffee…”

“You’re right…” He held her and kissed her head. “But I really don’t want to let you go.”

“After I shower,” she said running her fingers over his warm scruffy cheek, “I’ll come back and wake you up.”

“Promise?” He sweetly tucked her hair behind her ear.

“Yes.” She kissed his lips and slipped out of bed.

When Maddie was ready for work, she quietly returned to Dean to wake him. She stopped beside the bed for a moment and watched him sleeping. She sighed at how perfectly adorable he was. He had grabbed her pillow into his arms and held it to him before he fell back to sleep. He wanted to keep her in his arms even when she was gone. She smiled and leaned to him laying a hand on his shoulder. Gently, she nudged him.

“Dean, sweetheart?”

With a yawn, He opened his eyes. He smiled when he saw Maddie’s eyes on him. “Hi, beautiful.”

“Hi sweetie.” She sat beside him. “I have to go. You can stay. Do you want me to set the alarm for you?”

He let go of her pillow and sat up. “I should go home and shower. I have to get to the office.” He sweetly touched her face.

“Okay,” she said, unable to take her eyes from his. “Are you busy later?”

“I hope so…”

Her hand gently slipped into his hair. “Come over after work?”

“I’ll be here.”

As she moved her thumb slowly over his cheek, she had one more request. “Could you do something for me?”

“Of course.”

“Don’t shave.”

He smiled at her request. “I won’t.”

“Thank you.”

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.

  6. That’s funny. My wife asks me not to shave too. Seems like being bristley wouldn’t be comfortable, but I do as I’m asked. 😃
