guess: further detail.

movie theater.

When I posted ‘guess‘, I never considered the fact that guessing would be impossible for anyone who hadn’t seen any or all of those movies. So… since they are all movies I adore, I thought I’d offer some additional information. In my (obviously expert and accurate) opinion.

Spoiler alert. These movies are from 2001, 2010, 2011, 2013… so I take no responsibility. For anything. Ever.

(1) Monsters, Inc. (2001)
When my daughter was younger, this was her favorite movie so, of course, I’ve seen it many times. The whole concept is brilliant. And Sully is such a big fuzzy cuddly teddy bear. Except a monster. The way the monsters travel between worlds, around the world… and that whole door concept — brilliant. I guess that’s why those geniuses work at Pixar and I don’t. Oh, there’s even a ‘gag reel‘… which obviously would never happen in the process of making an animated film (not like this, anyway). The sequel (Monsters University) didn’t live up to the original. But Monsters, Inc. is still one of my favorite Pixar films.

(2) Tangled (2010)
For me, this may be the best movie ever. When my daughter was younger than now but older than her Monsters, Inc. phase, we watched Tangled every Friday. No discussion needed. Boy leaves for school, breakfast, Tangled. I can still recite at least 75% of this movie from memory. (Truly, probably more than that.) Oh, of course if you start to analyze the story, it’s really quite dark — kidnapped girl, never knew her parents, never allowed to leave that tower. But hell, look at Cinderella. Her life sucked. Then she married a stranger. Rapunzel, though, she basically said F-you and did what she wanted. Eventually. And she did it with the hottest animated man of all time. (Yes, I know, I have serious problems.) It’s got funny parts… romance… parts that made me cry… and many many lines that are quoted pretty much daily in my house. I could go on. But I will spare you. Kind of. “I don’t know why, but overall, it just smells like the color brown. Your thoughts?

(3) This Is The End (2013)
This is a raunchy, foul-mouthed, sometimes gross, depraved and just generally inappropriate film. I found it hilarious even on my third viewing. The first time I saw it was at work (before I got laid off, obviously). Yes, lights out in the conference room, my boss gave us a “movie break” with take-out lunch, and of course, blinds closed. I’m not sure what else I can say about this movie… it’s just… well, you have to see it. If I detailed a scene from it, you probably wouldn’t believe me anyway. Also, Craig Robinson is hilarious.

(4) Thor (2011)
Living with my husband and my son, I see pretty much every superhero movie. Several times. The Marvel films are all quite good… I love some more than others. I find Iron Man both amusing and awesome… I love his character (and RDJ is perfect in that role). I really enjoyed Ant-Man, too. But Thor, well, fuck me! Look at him. Chris Hemsworth: my one ‘celebrity free pass‘ with blond hair. (Yeah, I almost always go for the tall, dark, and handsome ones… Chris has the tall and handsome. Totally enough for me. Especially if he doesn’t shave. Yum. I know, I have a problem. At least this one’s not animated.) Oh, and let’s not forget (who could?), we also get Tom Hiddleston. Of course, there is also a great story happening in this film. Although sometimes one is distracted. I do love when the story isn’t all dark and serious. Sure, some bad shit is going down but there’s still a sense of humor. Sounds like my life.

About what sandra thinks

Sandra is a writer, sometimes blogger, poet, artist, emotional disaster. She thinks far too much and sleeps far too little. Sandra lives in the Northeastern U.S. but dreams of an oceanfront home in Italy, but she would settle for a non-oceanfront home in Italy. She loves books, brutal honesty, coffee, and the color black. She hates insincerity, beer, whipped cream, and facebook. And she is uncomfortable talking about herself in the third person.
