(This is a bit short… my apologies…)
This is part 18 of secret admirer. ♥

part 18.
“Oh no…” I was horrified by the name on the screen. “It’s Donna.”
“What could she possibly want now?”
“I have no idea, but if I don’t answer, she’ll keep calling… I’d rather get this over with…”
“Do you want me to talk to her? I can think of a few things to say…”
I smiled to him before I answered.
“Hello, Donna.” What the fuck do you want?
“Amy, I called to tell you that I’ve thought about it and I’ve decided I don’t want you at the funeral.”
“That’s not up to you, Donna.” Oh hell. I wish I didn’t have to be there! But despite everything, he was my husband. I did love him once. Maybe.
“I think it is up to me. After this morning, I definitely think it is.”
“Because I told you the truth about Dan?”
“No. Because I learned the truth about you.”
“What?”
“You accused Daniel of cheating but you’re the cheater.”
“I never cheated!” I turned to Greg. He looked horrified. And a tear fell onto my cheek.
“You’re lying, Amy. I was at the house. I’m not an idiot.”
Oh, you’re an idiot. “What are you talking about?” Oh, I knew what she was talking about. But I didn’t cheat. And I wasn’t going to make this easy for her.
“I saw those two mugs sitting by the sink. I saw a strange car in front of the house. Someone was there. Where was he? In the closet?” She made no effort to curb her sarcasm.
“Donna, my mother was over.” That’s not technically a lie… Mom was here.
“And the car? I’m sure you have an explanation for that, too.”
She obviously doesn’t believe anything I’m saying. I should make something up. Hell, Greg’s car was on the street. He could have been visiting my neighbor. “I don’t know everyone who parks on my street.”
“I knew you wouldn’t admit it.” She sighed dramatically to be sure I heard it. “I would prefer if you didn’t come to the funeral.”
“He was my husband. I’m going to be there.”
“I hope you change your mind.”
I didn’t have to speak another word. She disconnected.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes as I exhaled. I rested my phone on the table and turned to Greg. Still sitting there. Bare-chested and irresistible. And knowing our moment was ruined.
I wiped a few tears from my face. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have answered. I should have just turned my phone off. I’m sorry I let her ruin this. I…”
“Amy, stop.” His fingers slipped into my hair.
“But… Greg…”
“Shh.” He pulled my head closer to his and kissed my hair near my temple. And he made me sigh.
“I am so sorry…” I felt terrible. His beautiful bare chest begged for my touch but in my head, Donna’s horrible voice was deafening.
“Oh honey.” I felt his sigh and another sweet kiss on my head. “It’s okay. Everything is okay.”
“No, it’s not.” More tears fell from my eyes. “She thinks I’m a disgusting whore.”
With his hand still in my hair, he pulled away until his eyes met mine. “But you know you’re not. Amy, you didn’t even kiss me until Dan was gone…”
“But I was in love with you way before that.” Oh God. I just said that. I’m not sure I even realized how true it was until that moment.
“Amy…”
To be continued…
Oh dropping the L bomb! Can’t unsay those words now! This will test his mettle! This is great stuff, Cupcake! 😃 Btw, I feel really obvious trying to get photos of the front desk cuties. I’d be a terrible spy. I think they know what I’m up to… 😳

I don’t know… But he’s still not wearing a shirt. In my imagination, that is very distracting…!

What a Mom. I mean she was married to Dan and Dan was cheating, not her. But even if they were both cheating, she still gets to come to his funeral — in this case Dan would be no better than Amy, But Amy was faithful. Some mothers never see what their children do wrong, they just think it’s not possible and always someone else’s thoughts. My own Grandma and some relatives were the same way when my one Uncle passed away at 40. They were awful to his wife whom he was separated from. Hope things are going better this week Sandra.

My husband’s mother is not cruel to me like this, but she has never liked me… I think she may have been part of my “inspiration” for this character!

Hehe. Maybe it’s just that way with mother-in-laws, maybe not all but many. My aunt Josie is seventy-something and she takes care of my Uncles Mom who is ninty-seven and I love them both but I completely understand my Aunt Josie when she gets upset because Grast Grandma always has to be the enter of attention and talk over her, who is much quieter. They are my Godparent’s and at there age still happening lol.
