part 14.

I was afraid for my heart, pounding so madly in my chest. I had to close my eyes but I knew there was no chance my heartbeat would slow anyway.

When I heard him mumble my name, I looked at him again. With the hint of a smile, he whispered to me. “I think I have super powers.”

“What?” I couldn’t breathe. And I struggled to comprehend words.

“I can read your mind…” He made me sigh but I said nothing. “I know you want me to kiss you. Right now.”

“Oh God… Greg…” I brought my other hand to his face.

“What, honey? You don’t want me to kiss you?”

“You know I do…but…”

“But…?”

“I’m not sure I can stop after a kiss.”

“I’m not seeing a problem…?”

“My God, you are adorable.” He made me smile and he made me want him more. I lifted my forehead from his but barely moved away. “Greg, it’s this house…” I wanted him to understand. It had nothing to do with him. “This couch. My bed. All of it. I don’t want this to happen here.”

“I understand.” He smiled silently for a moment, then spoke again. “Amy?”

“Yeah?”

“Do you want to come over?”

I wanted to rip his clothes off. “Yes.”

“Let’s go.” He smiled as did I. But before I could say a word, he spoke again. “I know today is not a good day… not the right day.” He ran his thumb over my cheek. “But I promise I’ll make you stop after you kiss me. No matter how much you beg me not to.” His smile was perfect.

“I don’t know if I can trust you.” I smiled and dragged a finger across his lips. “You already broke a promise tonight.”

He ran his thumb over my cheek. “I did?”

“Mm hmm… you said you would be good if I sat closer to you.”

“You’re right…” He took a deep breath. “I did break that promise. And I’m going to break it again.”

I parted my lips to speak but he stopped me.

He touched a finger to my lips. “Shh.”

He took his finger away and again slipped his hand into my hair. He pulled my mouth to his own. His lips touched mine softly, cautiously. When he felt my grasp on him intensify, his tongue dove into my mouth searching for mine. My heart raced madly. I had my first taste of him and I never wanted to let it go. Our lips and tongues teased and tangled. And I felt a tingling spark rush through me from my mouth to my toes… touching me everywhere in between. All the tension built up between us shattered and crashed into that kiss.

When his mouth left mine, I wondered if I would ever catch my breath… if my pounding heart would ever recover. But I didn’t need the answer. I was going to kiss him again anyway.
