This is dedicated to my children… kind of.

You wanted summer, that’s what I thought…
But within days, you’re bored and too hot.
When I say read if you feel lazy,
You look at me like I’m crazy…
Maybe you’ll be happier when school starts!

Doubt it! I was thinking of a limerick on similar lines… School holidays, eh? 🙂

They couldn’t wait to be out! Especially my son… On day 2 my daughter was bored… and my son caught up soon after. I could just let them use the computer or tablet or other such technology all day, but that’s bad parenting, right? (Says the mom who has a laptop on her lap most of the time and a phone in her hand the rest… or both!)

Preaching to the choir! My eldest has chicken pox, so is off school (we’ve got another three weeks of school left yet). He spent three hours watching TV this morning while I filled in work applications on the laptop… not ideal!

I had chicken pox as a kid, but my kids are vaccinated for that… they never have to have it! Oh, and both of mine watched a movie today, too… so that was 2 hours with the TV… plus the TV never went off after that so… I’m sick of superhero cartoons now…! So with my laptop, I’m wearing earbuds listening to music… though I need to make dinner now. Yay.

I think we just had the same day! Mine was 3 hours of Avengers/Spiderman cartoons (oh, and the last hour of Back to the Future this evening). Hope it’s not a TV dinner… (groans) 🙂

My kids used to be like this but not any more … they love their holidays!

I think when they’re older and don’t want to hang out with Mom anymore, they will just go off and do their thing… but now, they want to do stuff with me… and I’d love to take them to do fun things, but I can’t spend money on anything so that’s pretty limiting. Plus it was grossly humid today… and it’s supposed to rain tomorrow…! Maybe I should have them help bake some cookies and then let them make a mess decorating them. Of course, the problem with that is that I will eat too many cookies. 🙂

That sounds like a good plan to me … baking and eating cookies.

I will eat too much… well, until my husband gets home… he’ll probably take care of the rest…!

Ha! Wonderful, Sandra!

Thanks, Eric. I wasn’t feeling much joy about summer today because of the gross humidity! Tomorrow should be great… rain! I may have to just let them spend too long using computers/tablets!

It’s a constant battle at our house too. Basically tablets/TV are approved until noon. After that, you need to find something else to do! 🙂

That’s a good plan. Of course, they will start waking up at 6 am. 🙂 Oh… and the TV is on way too much here. I wasn’t even counting that as part of “screen time”! That’s probably not good!

The international parent lament during school breaks. Mine were that way, too. If you had an unlimited income and/or unlimited time you could do stuff everyday. Hang in there, it’s almost July!

I don’t really want it to be over… for various reasons… But I do wish I could entertain them… it’s hard when I’m trying not to spend any money…

I saw an interesting post you might like to investigate on tapping: https://akinderway.com/2016/06/28/tapping-for-anxiety-originally-posted-317/ I never heard of it before. And I absolutely get the no money thing. When ours were young, we didn’t either and it makes it tough!

I’ve never heard of it… I’ll take a look.
I wish we had a pool… but where we live, our yard, we have no room (and obviously, no money for that). My mom has a beautiful pool but she’s an hour away without traffic (and there’s usually at least some traffic…)… I think I’m going to start sucking it up and deal with the traffic when we have nice days… I need to get the kids out of the house more! And not just for them to sit in the back seat while I hit the drive-thru for coffee…

That sounds like a plan. I bet your mom will be thrilled to see you more, too. We are going to VA Beach soon to see my sis and she has an in ground saltwater pool. My goal is to swim everyday we are there 🙂

My mom’s pool is in-ground. I loved having that right outside waiting for me whenever I wanted when I still lived there.

So lucky. I wish we had one. We have a hot tub, but no room for a pool either and a hot tub isn’t that great in the summer

Well, Mom is lucky. Now, if she lived just down the street… that would be great! Oh… and I’m pretty sure I’d use a hot tub year round… daily… or more…

I should use it more. But when it’s so hot, meh…

Maybe if you go in when it’s hot, when you come out, the air will feel cooler? Ha!

Not even at night when it’s hot, lol. Plus now there’s Zika to worry about

You need a small, air-conditioned enclosure! 🙂

Lol! Mine would be on screens all day too. One time we had no screens for a week and that taught them other things to do but damn, what would I do? I couldn’t handle it, lol.

That’s the biggest problem — they’ve called me on it. I am on my laptop and/or my phone so often that they think I’m just being mean when I don’t want them in techno-mode all day. I’m a total hypocrite! Hey, I stop to feed them. And play games. And leave the house. 🙂

Yup! But I tell them I’m reading on my laptop(I am… Or writing) and they seem to buy it, lol.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh, I tell them that, too… and it’s even true! But… they still say I get all the screen time I want. So I say, when you’re the parent, you can have all the screen time you want. And then I tell them that when I was a kid, I didn’t even have most of the screen options they have. (And I had to walk to school, uphill, both ways.)

Ha! I say the same thing. One of the great perks of being an adult! 😄 And yeah- we didn’t get to pause live tv! They can’t even imagine!

You should have seen my kids’ faces when I showed them a cassette tape!

Lol! Our library had a display of old media once and they came back talking about the weirdness of walkmans and CD players. They don’t even have a clue.

I saved my walkman! Maybe someday I can sell it for millions!

Haha….! That’s a good limerick! My son loves the summer break because of summer camps and field trips and I love it coz I get to sleep a little longer in the mornings 😀

When I wasn’t unemployed, the kids went to camp… and they enjoyed it. But it is so expensive (around here anyway)… so of course, with me out of work, it doesn’t make sense for us to send them anywhere! I need to come up with more stuff for us to do! Hey, they really do have summer reading. I’m not totally crazy telling them to read! 🙂

My son thinks I’m crazy when I ask him to read during vacation time, but he knows he has to do it. So despite the sulking he does it! 😉

I have no good suggestions here… Except yeah, tackle the drive to Mom’s pool!

Yeah, I think that’s going to have to happen… possibly frequently. At least it only costs me gas. I can handle that!
