Last week I posted an edited version of secret admirer, something I originally wrote back in November. The update (part 1) is a bit cleaned up, slightly altered, and has become the start of a longer story. This is part 2 (I recommend starting with part 1). I’m still sort of making this up as I go… but I’m pretty sure I have an angle now. ♥
part 2.
“Hi.” I could barely speak. He sent the flowers. Oh God.
“This is for you…” He handed me the lovely deep red flower.
“Does it go with the others?” I don’t know why I felt the need to confirm. I knew the answer.
“Yes.”
I adored his forthright honesty. No hesitation. His gift may have been anonymous, but he wasn’t shy about owning it.
“They’re beautiful. Thank you.” I would have been concerned about blushing like a teenager with a crush if my cheeks weren’t already pink from my workout.
“You’re welcome. I thought I owed you something beautiful to look at… since you give me that every day.”
Fuck, he is charming. Maybe too charming. Oh, who am I kidding? I love it. And I have no idea how to respond to him. I smiled. And said nothing.
“Do you have a few minutes?”
“For…?” Whatever it is, I hope it takes more than a few minutes. Oh my God! What am I thinking? Damn damn damn. His smile is fucking gorgeous.
“Whatever you want…”
God help me. Too many thoughts. Speechless again.
“I’ll buy you a smoothie…” He smiled and almost laughed at his own suggestion.
Damn, he’s adorable, too. Jesus, look at that expression on his beautiful face.
“Meet me back here in a few minutes?”
He nodded and I disappeared into the locker room. Cleaned up and clothes changed, I stared at myself in the mirror. Am I fucking insane? I am married. Maybe he is, too. Oh, it’s okay. It’s just a drink. I am not going to ravage him at the juice bar. I don’t think. Damn. But… but… I barely have a husband. Okay, that justifies nothing. But gym-guy is gorgeous. Oh my God. Stop!
When I was satisfied with my hair, I reached for my bag. And when I did, I paused and stared at my own hand. It was a matter of habit slipping my wedding rings back onto my finger after my workout. But gorgeous gym-guy has never seen them. Fuck. I stared at my hand for what felt like a very long time. And then, finally, I slipped my rings off and shoved them in my pocket.
To be continued…
Ooh, very nice, feel like I’m watching a movie, look forward to Episode 3! 🙂

Ooooooooooh! So I like where this is going. Well sort of. You know what I mean! From a story telling perspective this is great! I know I can count on you for a happy ending. Right? I can count on that right?

That is my usual conclusion… happy. It is difficult for me too resist that… but I suppose someday I need to widen my horizons… or something. For this story, though, well… I haven’t written the ending yet… so I could go either way (or can I?)… LOL

No! Romance needs a happy ending! Save the tragic end for the next book!

Or for my life? Oh, sorry… I couldn’t let that one go. You totally set me up for it!

No the happy ending is for your life, too. Doh! The tragedy is for “the great American novel” which you will complete after your romance novels are published! 😃

This is captivating. I don’t like the “flirting with infidelity” angle, but I totally get it. It’s believable. It’s “real”.

Thanks. Lately I’ve been thinking everything I write is boring. Time to visit some darker places. Not your murder-y dark places… but… my own darkness, I suppose.

Sandra, so good! Who knows where it’s going? Maybe he’ll get her a great deal on a BMW or sell her insurance, right? 😉 or maybe that’s not it…

Ahahaha… yeah… insurance! It’s Jake. From State Farm.

Hahaha 😀 I hope not. LOL! I like to picture him in the perfect-fitting pair of jeans… now that he’s done with his…um… workout…

Yes, I don’t think I want him to be Jake!

Definitely not. More like Hook. Without the hook… maybe… lol

Hahaha and I even know what you’re talking about cause I watch Disney JR more than any other channel

You know I mean Hook from “Once Upon a Time” though, right?

Hahaha, no, I didn’t! Obviously I spend way too much time with a 3 year old, when I should be watching grown up TV!! You said Jake and Hook and I immediately thought of Jake and the Neverland Pirates. How sad is that?? Maybe I should write a children’s book. 😀

I did a birthday party (invitations, cake, etc.) for my nephew with that theme a couple of years ago. But ‘Once Upon a Time’ Hook… is delicious. Yum.

Nice one. I think I missed the the first of the series. You have everyone eager for the next installment ewhich is the goal for every writer/blogger.

It really does work way better if you’ve read #1 first. (which was an edit of something older that you may or may not have already read…)

Yeah, i think I missed that last week. I will start again. One day over the weekend I will read one followed by two. I will get back to you.

One of the things I love about your work is the inner dialogue that you show the reader. I am really enjoying this…smiles.

If it’s okay with you I would like to reblog this one as well. Next week if my life allows.Lol!

Are you planning to reblog them all? I’m not sure why, but I have mixed feelings about it. Believe me, I’m incredibly flattered that you think it’s worthy of reblogging. But maybe when the series is over, you could reblog the last one which will have links already in it to the others rather than reblogging every post? Or when the series is done all the links will be in the first one, too. I think because my writing is such a part of me, I’m anxious for it to be posted on any other blog but my own. I’m so sorry if this comes across rude or unappreciative. That’s definitely not my intention. If you want to discuss further, feel free to email me via my contact page. And thank you again for seeing something in my work that you want to share.

I know how hard it is to get momentum as a writer. I set a goal for myself to help others like I have been helped. Pay it forward. So, no worries. If you decide you want me to reblog your work at a later time I will be glad to. Just let me know. 😉

I am totally fine with a reblog at the end linking to the whole thing. I’m still not sure why I’m so torn about each piece as I go along. But again, I appreciate your desire to do this! It does help get new eyes on my work… Yet another reason why I cannot explain my trepidation…

Okay. I understand completely. I want beta readers but am terrified to send them my work. I need feedback and I know that, but… I need eyes in general on my work… But I also need to know where my story sucks specifically.

I was terrified to post anything online in the first place! It took me a long time to finally start a blog and share anything! Years ago, I met a group online and I shared a very short piece of fiction. (It’s something I’ve adapted and posted on my blog, actually.) But back then… I posted it and got positive response, but… someone copied it and posted it to their site as their own. I found it by accident and it took me a long time to get her to remove it. I was afraid to ever share anything again! Even now, I’m always paranoid someone is going to steal my work and claim it as their own. Something like this happened once since I’ve been blogging, too.
Anyway, I’m totally not in a place where anything I’ve written is even at the stage where I need beta readers. I am good with shorter works, but when I try to write a novel, I always feel the plot is missing something. I know we need people to read our work and give helpful feedback but it is definitely very scary!

That’s awful! I’m so sorry that happened to you. Your wise to be cautious. I have these fears but never had this happen to me. It makes my heart hurt to think someone would be so callous and uncaring. You worked hard on that, it was your baby and they just took it. Despicable!

I don’t get how she could have felt good about any feedback she got knowing she didn’t even write it! Didn’t it just make her feel worse when people liked it? It baffles me!

These are really awesome. I can’t wait for the next one. BirickleyJules reposted so I was able to read and follow your blog. I know how writing is a part of yourself and maybe close to your heart. But you have a wonderful talent and I’m happy to have found and to be able to read what you wrote! Can’t wait for part 3 🙂

Thank you SO much! I love that people are enjoying this. And I kind of wish I had the whole thing already written… because now the pressure’s REALLY on to live up to the reaction so far! What a wonderful comment — I am not the most confident writer and your compliments and comments mean so much to me. Again, thank you so much. (And I don’t know why I get weird about reblogs… I think I’m too possessive! Maybe that’s why I’m in love with every dreamy man I create…Ha!)
